The French Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports, in collaboration with Unesco, is pleased to invite you to an International Conference on School Bullying, to be held virtually on 5 November 2020 (from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. – Paris time). The conference builds on commitments made at the July 2019 meeting of education ministers of the G7, under the French Presidency, and will mark the celebration of the first-ever International Day Against Violence and Bullying at School including Cyberbullying.

School bullying deprives millions of children and young people of the fundamental right to education. A recent UNESCO report reveals that more than 30% of the world's students have been victims of bullying, with consequences such as declining academic achievement, school dropout, and physical and mental health problems. The lockdowns implemented in response to the COVID-19 pandemic have led to an unprecedented rise in screen time use by children and adolescents. Without appropriate structure and oversight, this increase in time spent online may put children and young people at greater risk of cyberbullying.

The online conference will seek to build global momentum to end bullying in schools by raising awareness among all stakeholders, sharing promising practices and levers of success, and mobilising governments, experts and the entire education community. The conference will consist of series of live sessions, including interactive round tables with ministers, experts and representatives of the education community, as well as messages from high-level speakers, celebrities and personal testimonials. Prior to the event, renowned experts working on the prevention of school bullying will prepare work on the issue, and their findings will be presented at the conference on 5 November.

5th November, 2020 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.
